Muskets & Tomahawks II Muskets & Tomahawks is a set of rules for recreating skirmishes during the major wars of the 18th and 19th centuries. This “small war” is intrinsic to military campaigns and encompasses a huge variety of situations: reconnaissance missions, raids on enemy villages, attacks on convoys and outposts, and much more. Muskets & Tomahawks sees you lead a detachment of between twenty and over a hundred figures in thrilling and tactical battles. Centred on the card-based activation of different troop types, with innovative mechanics that recreate the chaos of these kinds of encounters, Muskets & Tomahawks lets you replay the great wars of the age of black powder: the French and Indian Wars, the American Revolution, the Napoleon’s campaigns, the American Civil War, and the multitude of colonial conflicts fought by the empires of Europe. In this book you will find the core rules, as well as a set of special rules to recreate the peculiarities of the small war: spotting the enemy, hidden movement, the varying reactions of units with different doctrines, combat in unusual conditions, and officers’ ambitions and personal intrigues. Apart from this rulebook, you’ll only need the Muskets & Tomahawks supplement that covers the period you want to recreate to start playing your first games!

Rogers' Rangers was initially a provincial company from the colony of New Hampshire, attached to the British Army during the Seven Years' War (French and Indian War). The unit was quickly adopted into the British army as an independent ranger company. The 78th Regiment, (Highland) Regiment of Foot also known as the 78th Fraser Highlanders was a British infantry regiment of the line raised in Scotland in 1757, to fight in the Seven Years' War (also known as the French and Indian War). The British military forces consisted of the British Army's regular regiments and independent companies; the provincial regiments raised by the several colonies in British America, and the colonial militia. Sachem and Sagamore refer to paramount chiefs among the Algonquians or other Native American tribes of the northeast. The two words are anglicizations of cognate terms (c. 1622) from different Eastern Algonquian languages. Sagamore was a lesser chief. The soldiers of the Compagnies Franches de la Marine (infantrymen as well as artillerymen) were the spearhead of the military policy in Nouvelle France from their arrival till the fall of the colony in 1760. The Canadian colonial militia enjoyed a substantially higher morale and battleworthiness than the British provincial troops and the militia of the British colonies. Tanacharison (c. 1700 – 4 October 1754), also called Tanaghrisson was a Native American leader who played a pivotal role in the beginning of the French and Indian War. He was known to European-Americans as the Half-King. Daniel Hyacinthe Liénard de Beaujeu (19 August 1711 – 9 July 1755) was a Canadian officer during King George's War and the Seven Years' War. the 'Wandering Iroquois'. A unique model designed just for the Muskets & Tomahawks Nickstarter by Mike Owen. The British Army had two types of units in North America: regular regiments serving in the colonies for a longer or shorter period of time, normally sent there only after the war had begun, and independent companies, permanently based in the colonies. The soldiers of the Compagnies Franches de la Marine (infantrymen as well as artillerymen) were the spearhead of the military policy in Nouvelle France from their arrival till the fall of the colony in 1760.
The British Army was largely recruited among the poor and the criminal classes; yet, the independent companies had lower status. Their ranks were often filled with people who had left the regular service – former soldiers mainly, but also deserters. The Canadian colonial militia enjoyed a substantially higher morale and battleworthiness than the British provincial troops and the militia of the British colonies. The Iroquois League played an important strategic role in the struggle between Britain and France over northeastern America because of its location east and south of Lake Ontario. The ranger corps became the chief scouting arm of British Crown forces by the late 1750s. The British valued Rogers' Rangers for their ability to gather intelligence about the enemy. Major Robert Rogers trained the rapidly deployed light infantry force tasked mainly with reconnaissance as well as conducting special operations against distant targets. Their tactics were built on earlier colonial precedents and were codified for the first time by Rogers. The tactics proved remarkably effective, so much so that the initial company was expanded into a ranging corps of more than a dozen companies. French colonists were supported by Wabanaki Confederacy member tribes Abenaki and Mi'kmaq, and the Algonquin, Lenape, Ojibwa, Ottawa, Shawnee, and Wyandot tribes.
