THUTMOSE III“Thutmose dresses in a combination of ancient Egyptianand modern European styles. He wears no physicalarmour but is well protected by the Regalia of Ra, hisTalents and his Mystical Powers”UNDERCOATINGThe model should need little cleaning up, but it is worthgoing over any model carefully just to make sure there isno flash or mould lines, clean any off with a sharpscalpel an a fine file. Undercoating is essential as itprovides a consistent surface on which to apply the next

coats of paint, and it shows up the detail on a model muchmore clearly than shiny bare metal. For the undercoat Iused Humbrol enamel matt black. I usually undercoat inoil based paint as I find they give better coverage on thebare metal.THE PAINTI used Army Painter War Paints to paint Thutmose III,mixing up colours to suit my style and preferences. TheMega Paint Set provides an adequate range of coloursfor almost all needs, but you will often need to mix coloursto get the desired results, however I have tried to work outcolour combinations to reduce mixing if possible. PAINTINGThe figure painting follows my well known method ofworking from dark to light shaded up from a blackundercoat. This three or more colour painting methoduses successive tones of colour (shade, middle and light)which are added to the model in layers, working up fromdark to light. This creates a bold three-dimensional effectof shadows and highlights, the layers of colour givinggreater depth and subtlety to the model. For the facialdetail and for the eyes I used an Insane Detail brush. Forthe rest of the model I used a Warpaints Detail brush.
