For years, a small religious group has been funding
archaeological digs in the alien ruins on the remotely-
population southern continent. The imperial
authorities paid passing attention to the church when
it first appeared, but quickly determined that its tenets
and activities promoted, rather than endangered,
social cohesion and imperial rule, categorising it as
‘Mostly Harmless’.
With the outbreak of rebellion, the authorities have
been too busy to consistently monitor the activities of
the church, but it appears they have taken advantage
of the population’s fears regarding the increase in
violence and the coming imperial response to recruit
many new members. A few Imperial Army analysts
suspect the group to have more than trebled in size,
an increase which brings with it accordingly more in
donations and membership tithes. Furthermore, the
involvement of suspected church members has has
been identified at least three raids on garrison
armouries initially put down to rebel activity.
As yet, no official investigation has been launched
into the church, though those who have been paying
attention believe the church might turn out to be an
even bigger threat than the rebellion.
This Detachment is surprisingly well armed and can
field several units of converts from within the ranks of
the Imperial Army, supported by snipers and anti-tank
teams equipped with weapons stolen in armoury
raids. The basic cultists are fanatical but lacking in
actual combat ability. The cult leader is a low-level
psionic and, if given the Summoner power, can draw
a writhing horror through from another dimension.
