PAINTING
These are all painted using the quite fast method detailed
here based on Nick’s work. CLICK HERE
Basically you paint on the colour, and then give it a wash
to shade it a bit then, then reapply that colour as a
highlight, and finally highlight it again by adding a lighter
colour to your original colour.
Firstly all models are black undercoated.
British
The British are primed with The Army Painter Leather
Brown Colour Primer as a base, spraying them from
above to give a bit of free shading, see here for the
technique. CLICK HERE
I was trying to keep the look of them a bit grim and rough
in keeping the themes of the book and adding some
outlandish elements like odd colour clothes, flowers and
symbols. The colours used for the Tommies were mostly
historical are as follows.
Flesh; Barbarian Flesh.
Uniform; Leather Brown.
All the webbing & respirator front; Combat Fatigues.
Leather jerkin, rifle stock & boots; Dirt Splatter.
Fur jerkin & respirator tube; Skeleton Bone.
Helmet; Cultist Robe.
Helmet covers, puttees & water bottle; Monster Brown
plus Skeleton Bone.
Rifle barrels, and respirator nose; Hardened Carapace.
Jacket; Deep Blue.
Trousers; Dragon Red.
Germans
The Germans are primed with The Army Painter Uniform
Grey Colour Primer as a base, spraying them from
above to give a bit of free shading as above.
Going for the same sort of quasi-historical look as the
Brits, with even more odd things about them. The colours
used for the Germans are as follows.
Flesh; Barbarian Flesh.
Gas mask case, filter case, some jackets & packs; Field
Grey.
Gas mask front & water bottle; Monster Brown.
Bread-bag & bayonet knot; Skeleton Bone.
Rifle stock, other wood; Fur Brown.
Helmets & puttees; Field Grey & Hardened Carapace.
Helmet, Jacket and trousers; Deep Blue.
Leather belts & short boots; Dirt Splatter.
Rifle barrels, jackboots, bayonet scabbard; Hardened
Carapace.
Camouflaged Helmet; Monster Brown, Desert Yellow,
Chaotic Red, Army Green & Matt Black.

“As the logistical challenges of the post-Shattering world deepen, it is increasingly common to see soldiers fighting in makeshift
uniforms – battledress from the early war is rummaged from storerooms and patched, darned, and repaired to make up the
shortfall. Some are unfortunate enough to fight in a patchwork of military and civilian clothes. Alongside these are men who
serve in regiments where the cultic influence is particularly strong, leading to even stranger modes of dress!”
