Painting Elf Cavalry
Above. The painted Elves.
THE WHITE HORSE
As the horse was already primed I didn’t bother to
undercoat his body black, just the horse furniture got
a black undercoat. You can still see some of the grey
primer in the horse’s tail under the first grey layer. A
horse is quite a different proposition, lots of big flat
areas which can be quite daunting. Just approach like
normal, but don’t try to get too much shading, on a
horse less is best, otherwise it can end up a bit like a
prancer on a merry-go-round. I do utilise more layers
(what! more than five for goodness sake? I here you
cry!), to try to achieve a subtle effect.

and then I added some dapples! In Matt White
and dark ones in the same mix as stage 3, not many.
The dapples were an afterthought really. Make them
irregular circular shapes smaller towards the edge of
the patch of spots..

Same principle really but this time I black undercoated
the lot. Colours as follows.

BASING
The bases are 25mm x 50mm plastic. I used
superglue to stick the models in place. When
positioning the models I made sure they ranked up
okay with each other.
I then filled in between the models bases and square
base with household filler and then left that overnight
to go hard. I then glued on some sharp sand with PVA
glue.
When the sand was dried hard I painted the whole
base with
1.
Leather Brown.
2.
I then dry-brushed on Desert Yellow.
3.
then I dry-brushed on lightly, Skeleton Bone.
I then added some flora. Lots of different Gamers
Grass flock tufts and then Gale force nine: Meadow
Blend Flock.
